Strange tectonic phenomena prompt the governments of the world to send a powerful digging vehicle called the VZR (but nicknamed the Wurm) underground to investigate. Contact is lost with four VZR's with the player controlling the crew of the fifth, who discovered that the previous teams were attacked by a subterranean empire of monsters called the Nonmalta. The Nonmalta are at war with a race of peaceful humanoids called the Dinamur, and the VZR crew find themselves embroiled in the war as well.

The game is named for its setting, Castle Shadowgate, residence of the evil Warlock Lord. عام 1999 . ويعتبر الجهاز بداية دخول مشغﻻت الجيل السادس لﻷلعاب فالعالم واول مشغﻻت الجيل السادس حيث ظهر بعدها جهاز بلي ستيشن 2 وجيمز كيوب واكسبوكس. دريم كاست هو عبارة آخر مشغﻻت سيجا وهو نهاية تسويق مشغﻻت اﻷلعاب بالنسبة لشركة سيجا بعد 18 عام من التسويق الناجح لعدة اجيال سابقة .لﻷسف كان عمر النظام قصيرا فالمبيعات والتسويق وحصل على دعم محدود من مطوري الطرف الثالث رغم اعتبارهم للجهاز بأنه متقدم كثيرا في وقته .
ولكن رغم ذلك توجد بعض اﻷلعاب القوية التي حققت نجاحا جيدا على هذا الجهاز رغم عمره القصير ومنها...
